Nightross, how Utopian can be Dystopian in nature.
The project will be focusing in creating characters which will reflect onto a world that may look Utopian, but in reality, is Dystopian in nature. The reasoning behind this is that we need to understand that unity and acceptance will bring forth a better future, and while we remain divided, we are vulnerable to a future not that different from the world I would depict.
2D experimentation-based material, imagination to conceptualize the characters from baren descriptions, bringing forth the knowledge learnt in the DPS year, to avoid exploring a too big of an experimental notion and stay focus on task.
The project would be placed pre graphic narrative project, it will suite on how artist do create their character design alongside or before finalizing the narratives to conceptualizes, fix, and evolve the story for better effects. This would strengthen my existing portfolio as it would show the evolution of the practice in my work.
In these difficult times the research would be focused on movies, books and graphics narratives for concepts already created in the field. For better understanding of character design, it will best focus on books and video sources, best found on YouTube.
Watercolours and line art chiaro-scuro paired with photoshop would be the choice in medium.
This for now is the brief that I am following.
Later in the week I begun to experiment:
I wanted at first to work on what I already created dooring the summer and base new better design concepts on them: for example the city residents having other the top designed clothing or gender restricting clothing, with a different uniform for work. For Gy, Ty and Sy better armour which is less complicated to draw that doesn’t make the joints look weird. As of Gin it is the only one that I did not like the new design, I would need more research to improve his clothing design.
Another thing I wanted to experiment with was watercolour and I watched some YouTube videos about the medium, I am far from being able to use the medium as intended as seen in these experiments:
These did give me an idea of broadening the character design for the city dwellers, what if I place some ink dots onto the paper and blow them around with a straw? I did just that, with some help with a brush I use some good line formations or go other board with the other two.
For now, it is not completed yet, but these are the sketches I created using the dolls I own for simplicity.
